In the News….
We were delighted that our exhibition ‘Classic Ground- Travels in Italy’ was featured in the Antiques Trade Gazette on 22 May 2021.
The drawings are from the collection of Nigel Jaques, (1935-2020) one of the longest serving and most popular masters (beaks) at Eton who collected watercolours and drawings of views of Italy from the period 1740 to 1860 for over forty years. He focussed on British artists who visited Rome and the Campagna, and collection well represents the British circle of artists in Rome at the end of 18th century. The magnificent piles of ruins and classical remains of Italy and the Grand Tour are central to his collection, as are landscapes and views of the Italian countryside and cities.
We were delighted that sales were very strong and the majority of the collection was sold in a matter of weeks.
